The Power of Milk

2,565 Views POSTED ON August 9th, 2007

Since I was a kid, it was an important part in the morning for me to drink a glass of milk. Well, I have known that my mom must have a reason why she keeps remind me and the whole family to take a glass of milk in the morning, and right now I want to share about the benefits of milk.

Milk contains of calcium which needed for muscle contraction, but calcium lends to our bone structure, bone recovery (re-calcification), and bone health as well. Thus milk have the ability to prevent osteoporosis, hypertension, and colon cancer. But you should note that these benefits are derived from an intake of fluid milk, not simply vitamins or other sources.

Calcium, potassium, and magnesium in milk may lower the risk of high blood pressure, coronary heart disease, stroke, or type 2 diabetes. Drinking milk also helps reduce the incidence of tooth decay. There is no evidence to support the theory that drinking chocolate milk aids in tooth decay. So please allow your children to drink chocolate milk to increase their daily consumption of milk. If you affraid of the tooth decay, don’t forget to keep them to brush their teeth after drinking it.

For babies, of course the best milk comes from mother. Many researchs result that breast milk is perfectly suited to nourish infants and protect them from illness. Mother who gives breast-feeding should take an appropriate portion of milk. It is good for the development of her baby and the quality of milk inside her breast. The primary benefit of breast milk is nutritional. Human milk contains just the right amount of fatty acids, lactose, water, and amino acids for human digestion, brain development, and growth. Cow’s milk contains a different type of protein than breast milk. This is good for calves, but human infants can have difficulty digesting it. Bottle-fed infants tend to be fatter than breast-fed infants, but not necessarily healthier.

Breast-fed babies have fewer illnesses because human milk transfers to the infant a mother’s antibodies to disease. About 80 percent of the cells in breast milk are macrophages, cells that kill bacteria, fungi and viruses.

Well, I conclude that, milk should be taken since a baby. And no matter how old you are, don’t forget to take a glass of milk in the morning and before you sleep.
