Acupuncture: Traditional Way for Healthy You

2,951 Views POSTED ON September 24th, 2007

Nowadays, there are many woman wanted to be healthy and pretty but spend too much money just to get their purpose. I said too much money because to do a surgeon or face-lift is not a cheap. Well, nothing is wrong if you have much money and you want to spend it more in order to be healthy and pretty, but why don’t you try the traditional and the cheap one? One of the traditional and cheap ways of healthy is acupuncture. Let’s know better about it.

Acupuncture and acupressure is a natural healing system developed by the Chinese and successfully practiced in their culture for many centuries (claimed to be over 5,000 years old.) Acupuncture was first introduced in Europe about 200 years ago by Jesuit priests who served as Catholic missionaries in the East. Most of its modem popularity in America and Europe followed the normalization of relations between the West and the Peoples Republic of China

Chinese medical theory holds that acupuncture works by normalizing the free flow of qi (a difficult-to-translate concept that pervades Chinese philosophy and is commonly translated as “vital energy”), blood and body fluids (jin ye) throughout the body. Pain or illnesses are treated by attempting to remedy local or systemic accumulations or deficiencies. Pain is considered to indicate blockage or stagnation of the flow of qi, blood and/or fluids, and an axiom of the medical literature of acupuncture is “no pain, no blockage; no blockage, no pain”. The delicate balance between qi and blood is of primary concern in Chinese medical theory, hence the axiom blood is the mother of qi, and qi is the commander of blood. Both qi and blood work together to move (qi) and to nourish (blood) the body fluids.

The acupuncture points are determined and needles are inserted. The size of the needles is dependent on the area of the body where they are to be used. For example, longer, thicker needles are used in areas where there is more “cushioning” such as the buttocks, while small, thin needles are used where the flesh is thinner and closer to the bone. In either case, insertion of the needles is quick and virtually painless.

The main point you should know is acupuncture treats all conditions by treating the person, not the disease, the cause not the symptom. It is used to restore the body to harmony as well as to maintain good health. It is a natural form of medicine, which has no side effects or harmful reactions.

Okay, I give you one example. When you have problem with your weight (obesity) the acupuncturist will give acupuncture treatment at your ear. It is because the ear is believed in giving a good effect. The acupuncturist will insert the needles at the hungry point at your ear because it has relation with upper digestive system. You have to hold the needles for about 2-3 minutes during hunger for food, and half an hour before eats for 3 times a day. This activity will press your muscle contraction so the gastric will be calmer and the hunger condition will be much less. You can feel the progress after 8 weeks of therapy.

As I said previously, acupuncture has no side effects or harmful reactions, but one thing you should remember that if you decide to use acupuncture as the solution of your health, it should only be administered by a qualified practitioner who follows correct hygiene and sterilization procedures or uses disposable needles.
