You are crazy about diving? Or you are an amateur diver? I think Bunaken is a great place to visit. Bunaken is one of Indonesia’s most famous dive areas, and it draws scuba divers from all over the world. It becomes an important national asset. One thing you should know, Bunaken is one of greatest sea-park in the world. In addition to Bunaken itself, a rather featureless banana-shaped island, the national park includes the neighboring islands of Manado Tua, a distinctive cone-shaped extinct volcano, Siladen,Montehagen, Nain and Nain Kecil.
This park is famed for the clarity water. 35 meters visibility is common in the summer dry season; you can see it when you go around by boat. You also can see the abundance of coral and fish, and for the dangerous but great “walls” at some sites.
You may find reef inhabitants include white and black tip reef sharks, giant sea turtles, napoleonfish and dugongs. You may frequently run into dolphins, and occasionally schools of whales. East Bunaken, right off the east coast of the island and featuring all of the above, is according to some the best dive sites accross Indonesia.
The other activities you can do in this place are beach-combing, hiking, fishing. Remember, to go fishing only at the outside of the park boundaries. You can hire a boat or join with the local fishing boat.
Oh, I almost forget, to get this place you should go by boat from Manado for an hour. Or you can make a reservation to resort you may want to and they will arrange transportation from the airport for their guests.
